Okay, so this Puja Vacation, I'll be going to Goa! Yayyyyyyyyyyyy! The sun , the sand , the sea and the shiny waxed legs... Except that this time I'm not going to go hairless.
No its not purely out of feministic rebellion, that I've decided to shun the razor. It's more out of laziness. But whatever man! I mean for all those guys who have only ever been upclose with a girl, courtesy movies and ads, let me educate you: Girls do have body hair! Deal with it. No it does not hurt as much as your overgrown stubble might, so get over it. I'm sure there are some of you who could not care less, what with body hair et al, but thanks to this unreal image, lots of girls go through hell to achieve that super shiny hairless look. I know my friends who would not be caught dead wearing quarter pants or skirts on the streets.
And until a year ago, I probably would have myself found it pretty 'indecent' to walk about in a pair of shorts without my legs waxed, of late I have began to question the use of this rather painful beauty regime. I (hopefully) fall in the less-hairy category so I can skip the razor and not exactly invite rude disgusted ogles. Probably why I can afford to skip it , in the first place. Also, I thankfully , do not find waxing as painful as most girls do. In fact i actually like that sensation of a sticky tape being pulled out real fast off your skin. And had it been less cumbersome and expensive, I wouldn't care two-pence about it. But it isn't. And boys, its not like shaving a beard. You can have your stubble or grow your Santa Claus beard and people wont pointedly stare at you like you forgot to wear your bottoms.
But had I been even a little bit hairier than what I am now, I do not think I'd have the guts to go to Goa of all places without my legs waxed/shaved. And lucky me, my bf doesn't give a shit bout my body hair. He even happens to like it! No I would not start waxing or stop waxing on my boy friend's preferences. But let's be honest, it does make me feel nicer (and a bit relieved) that my partner doesnt fuss over my body hair. Now, I probably would not be with him if he was picky bout such things, but that's a different story.
And if you happen to be with a guy who constantly hints at your un-shaven hands or legs, I do not think you'd feel very appreciated about it. Yes he hardly does it and he says it in jest. He is a just bit picky about hygiene, etc. But you get what I mean, right? I mean hygiene and hairy are not antonyms.
It's the same if you do it for a guy who's got a super hairy chest. Not all of us have the time and ease of getting our chest parlour-waxed like Salman Khan. And it is bloody painful! Here I must admit that I'm only too human for I too have shamelessly participated in Anil Kapoor jokes :P.
I do not think I'd be able to let my underarm be as it is! and I still wish sometimes that I was hairless like all my asian/mongolian origin friends( no offense to them , I still envy you folks :P if only for your lovely thick straight hair on your scalp and completely hairless body) And I do not think I'm being exceptionally brave by foregoing the razor, this trip. I just am trying to come to terms with my body.
For those of you who like waxing, and do it for reasons other than conforming to today's beauty standards, I do not mean to judge you. And for those who do it because its just what they have to do, I'm cool with that to. I used to do it too, a while back ;)
